EcoPathways cultural retreats bring our mission to life: documenting the holistic values and time-tested practices of the valley and helping transform this knowledge into sustainable local livelihoods, while respecting the balance of nature.

We invite you to come, share, live and experience this way of life — and perhaps remain connected to the community long after your visit.

We believe that wealth can exist beyond what we own. Belonging, caring, sharing and living in communion with the land are values that make life worthwhile. Another way of life is possible.

Proceeds from our retreats help sustain EcoPathways' wider mission of documenting traditional practices and supporting local cultural knowledge.

Our home: Valle de Laciana, northern Spain

EcoPathways is rooted in Villaseca de Laciana, León, in the mountains of northern Spain near Asturias. The UNESCO-designated Valle de Laciana Biosphere Reserve is surrounded by remarkable protected mountain landscapes, including Somiedo, Muniellos and Babia. The valley spans roughly 950–2,188 metres in altitude.

Spanish is spoken here, alongside the cultural heritage of Patsuezu, a local Astur-Leonese speech preserved in stories, place names and traditions.

Stay and belong

Retreat accommodation includes time in EcoPathways rural apartments in Villaseca de Laciana, together with other traditional local accommodation according to the itinerary. The apartments provide a welcoming base to rest and experience the valley. Longer independent stays may be available separately.

Local food, shared tables

Meals are part of the cultural experience. We engage with local producers and seek to source local ingredients wherever practical, supporting the people who maintain the valley's food traditions. Menus and dietary arrangements vary by retreat.
